During each course, you will first learn the basics of the mentioned style accompanied by dhol after which we will create a short choreography to a song.
All courses are improvers/intermediate level and thus, some experience in bhangra is recommended. However, each course will start with a thorough explanation of moves and sequences.
Dhamaal
is one of the oldest and most spiritual forms of Bhangra. Rooted in wrestling and celebratory traditions, it is characterized by bouncy, rhythmic footwork, and is often performed during wrestling matches, harvests, or significant cultural gatherings. Movements are big, open, and centered around joy and ecstasy, matching the hypnotic, rolling beats of the dhol. In this session, you’ll learn how to channel energy, rhythm, and devotion into your dance.
JHOOMER
originates from the southwestern region of Punjab, particularly among farmers. This dance is known for its graceful, circular movements and swaying rhythms. It is less intense than Bhangra, but equally expressive, often danced under the moonlight during weddings or rural celebrations. You’ll learn how to embody grace, poise, and storytelling, while dancing to the slower tempo of the dhol.
LUDDI
is a victory dance, historically performed to celebrate success in battles or important events. It is known for its distinctive shoulder rolls, head tilts, and grounded footwork. Luddi is more restrained in its movements but deeply rhythmic and symbolic, offering dancers a chance to express triumph and joy in a stylized form. A perfect contrast to the high-energy bhangra steps!
BHANGRA WITH KHUNDA
A khunda is a curved wooden stick, traditionally used by Punjabi elders as a walking aid—but in bhangra, it becomes a majestic dance prop.
In this session, you’ll learn how to incorporate khunda movements into your dance, combining power, coordination, and flair. This style not only adds a visual element to your performance but also pays tribute to cultural heritage and storytelling.
